Insight and Questions From a 2011 Player

#1
Hey all how's it going, just popping back in from a long and much needed absence from this game. Wanted to see how everyone is doing and get a general idea on how people feel the game is doing. (Keep it appropriate, don't wanna see this thread locked)

Doesn't seem like much has really changed at all since Dhiothu release? Since I really couldn't be bothered to read through the forums, curious to know if this game has really anything planned for the future or if its become a non-focus since warhammer release.

To the Developers,

I have mixed feelings about my time spent throughout my adventure since 2011. Sad to see the game never really break off and attempt at some big changes. It's alway felt like the game was just tunneled into a simple idea with no intention of having variety and branching out. Curious to see if any of the developers have any ideas that they wish the game would have gone for at one point or another. Also wonder what each of the developers believe the game strives at the most. Always thought the biggest strongsuit of this game was the social atmosphere. Always been super easy to get in touch with others and get involved on servers, albeit the toxicity, always kept me logging in to chat with others and see whats happening on the server.

Ooh a player older than me, hello forefather hero

Topic 1:
My stance has pretty much been the same since Lanrik fashion rode into the game and OTM changed their formula on how items were acquired in the game, plat gambling sucks. Beltane 2013 saw first main mystery chests with the contents purely being extra special versions of gear that could be acquired through gold. White and black sunlit, there was a sunlit vendor that sold everything but those colors. Dragon staffs, there was a vendor that sold different versions of the “same” mount. As a result, chests were bought but gambling wasn’t required, lixs could be purchased right out, same with alts and rebs. Then came Lanrik one event later and all of a sudden we were forced to buy chests just for fashion? Like, huh? I remember spending 2 hours flying around trying to find the Lanrik vendor before I asked someone  was just an utter disappointment. Then a few years later mount shop disappears and only way to get mounts is through chests. Then pets and battle mounts enter, once again only way is through gambling (bounty system was a big help here, can’t lie I love it).

Topic 2:
Loot table just sucks. Pretty much every game is going to have “top” gear that everyone wants, that’s inescapable. The issue I have is there is only a small handful of bosses and for some reason developers thought that each new 220 boss should replace the loot of 220 bosses? Like, huh??? I remember in Dino beta asking quite a few times and complaing that Dino loot was being designed to make a lot of BT and Gele loot 100% obsolete even though the bosses were the same level (not the same difficulty obviously). My point being the game has always been set up that there are at max 3 bosses, usually only 2, at any one time that matter, and rest usually disappear from importance minus maybe 1 or 2 items (not anymore tho rip). I always thought this was dumb, forces a steep bottleneck because now instead of having 4 bosses (prot, gele, BT, Dino) all dropping good loot for 220’s, prot is all but pointless beyond DG, Gele gear is poor compared to BT and Dino, and even a lot of BT gear has become pretty pointless with Dino (lot was pointless before but don’t blame beta testers ._., lot was even worse before then  ). I’ve always been a fan of #ExpandTheLootTable as in making there be multiple bosses of equal stature so that way even if the absolute best item is rare as all can be (which I’m fine with, following the next clause is true) if there are enough other items that can operate as substitutes, enough meaning either quantity of tokens (types) - multiple bosses or quantity of a specific token (type) - higher drop rates. I’m so bored of EG I sold out and moved servers to somewhere with some low level competition, joined a comp clan, and resting at mordy level because at least there the gear wait isn’t horrible and the gameplay is still fun.

Topic 3:
Where is VR? Don’t think anyone expected the full staff to be devoted to CH with WHO out, but having 0 response or activity, not even recycled fast respawn events is nothing short of abhorrent management of the game. Covid made things hell (for everyone) so I’m still in favor of cutting slack… for a bit… but if this continues and they even forget to change chests for CH birthday (pretty sure it already passed too ._. ) and no event etc, I mean a line for where excuses have to end has to be drawn somewhere.

Topic 4:
What the heck is dino? Still 0 lore for how a DIVINE dragon fits in as a minion of CHAOS. OTM set up an amazing storyline and gardens was hinted as the 2nd to last installment in the main line (towards the defeat of CROM) . If Dino is the start of a new side story line AWESOME! But we need quests and lore or it just looks like a neon aggy that doesn’t fit the atmosphere, lore, or any other part of this game and comes across as the design team doing there own things without even reading through the storyline and lore of the game. ._.

Topic 5:
Game has been on pause for eons. VR admitted that OTM lied flat out about the engine update and put the game behind by about 2 years (2 year mark is my estimation, nothing admitted by VR). We saw 0 new events, 0 progress on zones (remember when gardens was supposed to only take a half year  ), and just overall small really poor changes that all screamed WE NEED CASH. Heavy focus on new Lux items that completely changed game mechanics and relied on massive gambling to acquire with no non-gambling method. Like honestly that really pissed me off, forcing gambling to progress in a game???? It’s one thing if chests could be acquired for free and had certain guarantees and decent drop rates (thinking of Genshin and like most other MMO’s/games that use a random loot type of reward/progression system), but to force players to spend real currency to gamble to progress, CH turned into a slot machine with no real content to justify all the money that went to the house, and as with any casino, the house was the only thing that won ._.
VR finally took way longer than the “zone” that is Dino’s castle to give us a boss (see previous topic) that doesn’t even fit anywhere into the game, with loot that was lazily designed as only very idle progression rather than providing for a more robust loot table (see previous topic).
Anyways tl;dr for this topic, developers need to step up their game whenever/if they ever return to CH, 2 years for a small castle with a reskin of a boss that already exists with all loot just being reskins of items that already exist with the relative NPC’s wearing fashion from 2012…. It just not enough in terms of development to stay relevant in any sort of way.

Could go on, but in terms of what I’ve noticed since I started in Yule (December) 2012 till now, these are my main issues/topics that I’ve focused on.
For me, I agree, best aspect of the game is the strong social environment, but over the years all of the social aspects I loved have moved offline as there is almost 0 reason to play when bosses aren’t up. Gold is pointless so no farming, no quests everything is just kill this get armor BOOM. It just a quiet casino ._.

What about the fact that Dino raid is the only one that is really challenging and "fun"? A new Boss that I would really like would be a daily Mini Dino Boss like Prot. I would like a daily raid similar to Dino Raid. Prot drops braces and rings, this "mini Dino" could drop Miscs and Necks, it is worth mentioning that this mini Dino would not necessarily be similar to Dhiothu, in my conception, "mini Dino" would be as different from Dhiothu as Prot is different from Gelebron, see what I'm getting at?

Gear in this game is way too strong. Too many stats, too much damage, everything. Bosses like BT and gelebron SHOULD be challenging bosses because of how the mechanics were made, but gear is so strong that it turned them into joke bosses really. Blood thorn in particular was very poorly done with loot. The rings, miscs and helms are just ridiculous. Bloodthorn loot also ruined the flow of gelebron, who’s loot is more well balanced (though the void weapons and high tiered bracelets are pretty ridiculous as well).

The devs just kept adding more and more powerful loot without much care of setting limits, and now it’s just a broken mess. Like compare loot from prot to the loot from gelebron to the loot of BT to the loot of the dragon. All 220 bosses, but it feels like with each boss the quality of loot jumps 10 levels haha. Got to the point where gelebron and all bosses below start to feel so irrelevant, and that leaves people with only 2 meaningful bosses lmaoo.

Agree about dino, to an extent, was a good idea but I still think the executes toon was poor. Limiting number that can participate was a dumb idea and still is. It’s a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER online rpg after all .-. On top of that a lot of the mechanics were 100% overkill. In beta they just kept adding and adding mechanics until honestly some of us gave up killing it because it just wasn’t feasible with what we had.
I will agree though, an interactive raid that built on top of reaver and Lich was smart, but that’s the only praise I can say about Dino raid.

Agreed, and because they are al the same level, level lock doesn’t help any smaller clans get the older gear. It’s all a horrible system of progression. They should have taken the opportunity with the new bosses and either upped the level (BT should have been 230, Crom 240) or made the raids slightly difficult on their own but without loot that allows players to steamroll bosses of the same level. I still remember seeing 100 Pierce dmg rings on BT loot list in beta and thinking what the heck are they thinking… (Especially since caster alternative was just 400 elemental damage for auto attacks  )

No increasing level is NOT a good idea. The game is already stretched thin enough ahaha. What I would do is:
1. bring Necro and Mordy to 220, because let’s be honest they’re being killed by end games anyways so them being 190 is stupid. Then buff the two (especially mord).
2. Nerf ALL of the loot deemed too overpowered to be on par with necro/Mordy loot.
3. CHANGE all gear seen as direct upgrades to something UNIQUE to add more variety.
4. NERF the blue dragon overall. Nerf the hp of everything else, ramp up the dmg dealt by boss and adds to create more chaos and less tank and spank stuff that makes me fall asleep in the middle of a fight.
5. DG NEEDS A NERF. Remove the exalted dragonlord buff it gets... ITS NOT EVEN DRAGONLORD. It should be a high risk high reward armor, but instead it’s low risk high reward. Ik dom players wanted the buff cause it obviously benefited them and trashed everyone else, and surprise surprise the devs listened lmao. The removal of the buff would help balance the armor cause ur no longer immune to the effects of gelebron and mordy (assuming all previous changes are made). Oh top of that, give every boss an ability that requires exalted dragon lord to deflect, OR JUST MAKE A NEW ARMOR SET. A CG endgame armor set would look badass.

So, if all of that was done the standard difficulty of raids should be on par with necro. Booooom now there are SIX raids everyone can thoroughly enjoy. Your welcome devs I just saved the game without creating much new content. Send money plz

On the topic of locks. Just buff edl spawn rates lol. The changes would make edl relevant again and help give weaker clans a fighting chance to take down their mean green dominating dictator oppressing greedy jackass monopoly guy with a huge top hat opponents ahaha.

Also there was a CG armor set in the works before OTM got the axe. If i recall correctly the CG offhand weren't ever supposed to be released lol, they were initially supposed to come out with the CG armor set in a different update but because of some stuff in BT beta they felt the need to surprise everyone with them lol.
No idea what VR's current plans are or if they even know where the design and rough outlines for the armor sets are.

So in other words undo the past 7 years of content.
Btw mages and rangers if they aren't dumb about where they stand can stand outside of Mordy range and any DG ranger worth their salt is ez outdpsing a DL rogue.

Also why be so anti-DG? Its insanely hard to get and it should be op to match it.

Anyways I don't think a game should redact things from 7 years ago, instead it should try and figure out how it can correct things as the game moves forward that correct past mistakes through the new content. Thats just me though.

In other words yes. Otm and VR, but mostly OTM did a unfathomable job. God awful job with the loot/progression/balance. Necro and Mord are still really cool looking fights that could be made even better through updated versions of them. Gelebron could also use some changes to make that fight more interesting. Like take the eye ball for example, what the hell is the purpose of it??? It just gets killed long before the raid begins and isn’t seen again for hours or whatever lmao. Incorporate it into the fight ffs. 3 very cool bosses, all 3 are being wasted away cause of years of mistakes. Think of it like this, they revamp gelebron, mord and necro into interesting endgame fights that play differently than before... would feel like 3 entirely new raids without adding any new raids. Much easier for the devs right?

I think BT and the dragon would play far more better if the stupid overpowered loot was gone and the raids got respective balance nerfs. Would require *gasps loudly* a competent beta test :0:0:0 one without dom idiots who just try to warp everything to their benefit while declaring war on every tester cause they can’t act like adults and instead with actual competent MMO players.

Also DG is broken and the difference between a full dg players and non full dg player is absurd. I remember when dom players complained and cried non stop “dg is useless we are too squishy give it a buff” until the devs gave in. Went from being high risk high reward to being essentially a broken set of armor which absolutely unfathomable on all competitive balance. Basically this game in nut shell ahaha, dom players making horrible game suggestions for their own benefit.

Suggesting making Mordy, Necro, etc harder so that only dom clans can kill them IS just making changes that benefit only dom clans. The solution is to break apart the bottleneck and make decisions that support smaller comp clans so that in time they can go head to head on those bosses you mentioned, and then ultimately on BT and dhio too. It is the fun of realistic competition that will bring bored players back.
