Lock Wars Question

#1
Would a group of three 180s need to do less damage to get lock than a group of three level 180s and then 2 say level 220+'s? Not asking which one would get the lock faster, but more like, does having high levels in your group when trying to lock a 180 boss hinder how soon you can get the lock? I am guessing no but its a question that I think is worth asking if it helps the strategy.

yes a group of 180s would need to do less damage to lock troll (im guessing thats what youre talking about) i believe that the more higher levels you have in the grp the more dmg is required to get lock. That is why lower clans can still lock bosses due to the lvl lock advantage

Even though both groups have three level 180s and say doing the same exact damage?

Jason doesn't know what he's talking about.

You can easily test it out on any mob and see for yourself. For example, level 60 event boss, grab a few level 60s and see at what % the boss locks. Then add a high level to group and see if the % changes the second time.

A mage at heart... Fire mage that is.

I'd feel sorry for the level 60s ._.

No, high levels only help in this case.

Take the 180 troll for example, 180-200 has no lock penalty, but every level above you have a .5% penalty added to the boss, say the three level 180's need 30% hp alone to lock the boss. That being said your group with the two 220's would need 20% more damage so you need to virtually get 50% while they need 30%. If you are directed toward snorri specifically, the easiest route is to make a 180-200 locking account with the gear of your desire. :)

So you're saying it does hinder the time it takes to get the lock even if both groups have three 180s each? >.>

Absolutely not no. The high levels help. Reposted:

For those of you who still aren't sure the details behind lock: "Target lock works like this:

If you are within 20 levels above or below the mob, including the 20th there is no penalty and you lock at 15% damage. For each level beyond that you get a 0.5% penalty so if you are 40 levels over the boss it's 15% plus 20x0.5 or 10% so you need 25% to lock.

Group lock is calculated as follows:

Each player has a % locked value for damage dealt. This is 100% when you would lock solo so its 100% locked at 15% damaged within 20 levels and 100% locked at 25% damage for 40 level over. You add up your whole group %locked and when the group total equals 100% your group locks the boss.

Therefore in groups there is no penalty for a high level in a low level party, they just don't add as much to the % locked directly. The % the boss locks at will always be between the lowest % and the highest % group members would lock solo, the exact number based on when the %locked hits 100% and lock occurs.

How to game the system and ruin target lock making at level people unable to lock is to have a decent group of mostly the right level people. Ideally they are all exactly 20 levels above the boss. You then have a end game ranger with sharpen weapons and spikes maxed in the group and end game rogues with maxed poison weapon and mages with cloak of fire out of group. The low level lock group gets massive buffs yet keeps the 15% needed (the ranger above wont help much directly though).
