Re: Dear developers, Epona needs help

Are people really only moving to Epona because of its loot distribution? If there are other servers that are now 'free' like Epona, why aren't these servers seeing a massive influx of transfers too?

I think it's far more accurate to say that Epona is growing increasingly popular because it already is popular. Epona is the only server that is truly thriving. Maybe at the start, when it was the only 'free' server, the loot distribution was attracting the majority of new players. Now, people who are still invested in the game and are sick of their own dead servers, might be looking to play in a world where people actually log on to kill raids. Or, maybe they just want to mess around in the castle with 20 other like-minded castle campers. Don't underestimate how many people simply do not care about server politics or loot distribution - some of us just want to log on, kill things and have people to talk to.

Regardless, I wouldn't be opposed to doing away with the wide-spread loot monopoly that plagues most servers. Anyone who logs on and has the ability to contribute towards killing a boss, should be rewarded appropriately. I am a firm believer that all content should be be open for everyone. We play a game to enjoy it's content and should not be limited in what we get to enjoy by any other player.

Unfortunately, I don't think there will ever be a solution to the performance problems Epona faces, beyond simple hardware upgrades. Offering more game content or changing distribution systems may bring some players back from the dead, but the numbers will never reach those of Epona and thus the exodus continues. One possible solution is to merge servers but with the lack of content and loot drops, they will face another of Epona's problems - there's not enough to go around. Combining a server merge with a reasonably sized content update seems to be the most viable option to keep other servers alive and prevent their player bases from leaving.

In theory these solutions sound great. In reality, development on Celtic Heroes has most likely ceased for good.

Nerf bosses majorly and make them instanced with max 8 players (1 group) in an instance.
Literally fixes all of the games problems lmao.

Make instances cost money as a gold sink too. Like 100k for mord/hrung 150k for necro 250k for prot 500k for gele 750k for bt and 1m for dhio.

Good post. Yes I’ve mentioned how people go to Epona not because it’s the only roll server, because there are quite a few options now, but because it is the most well established roll server and is massive. Not everyone who sits in the castle is a full time castle camper. There are many players who simply go there during down times to chill, talk and trade because the castle is super active pretty much 24/7 and there’s always stuff happening there. Good way to pass time.

Content should be open for everyone given it’s a 100% open world game. The fact that players have the ability to completely lock out other players from pretty much all of endgame is horrible on the players behalf and poor design on the developers behalf. It makes absolutely no sense why VR and OTM allows for this to happen, and free servers don’t get a pass because they’re also guilty of this. And then of course there are all of the issues that revolve around dominance and how unhealthy it is for the player base.

Adding in more content won’t fix the issue. History has shown time and time again that this game sees a sudden spike in activity after a content update, but it rapidly starts to decline again after a few months. This was largely seen in the seasonal event days and is part of the reason why they were discontinued. That obviously means the problem is much deeper than simply content, and now it’s starting to become more evident that the players themselves are the problem. Merging servers won’t help anything because the problem will still always be there, and VR will never merge servers because of how many problems it’ll cause and the amount of work it’ll take.

If VR were to simply make it so that everyone who participated at a boss has a chance at loot (for example, each player present that hits the aggro threshold gets a 50% chance at getting a drop. Everyone), this game would be so much better. Players would have less reasons to leave their server as the drama/issues revolving around dominance will no longer be there, players who quit will want to come back as they can jump right back into the loot grind at no cost, things will be fair for everyone, Epona will no longer be flooded with server xfers, dead servers will come back to life as everyone will be able to obtain loot if they participate regardless of clan (combining the powers of the server to form something greater), players will no longer be able to lock others out of content, and the loot distribution problems found on heavily populated servers will no longer be an issue as everyone who participates has a chance at loot. It’ll make future content/expansions that much more enjoyable as everyone on the server will be able to experience everything at once together. The lock mechanic would be removed but players will still be able to compete for the kill, that way there is still some element of competition.

Part of what makes this game special and unique is that it’s completely open world, dungeons/instances would completely ruin that and turn this game into another average MMO. If you want dungeons/instances than OaC is waiting for you around the corner (if that game isn’t already dead, because average MMOs don’t last that long, unlike Celtic heroes running strong after almost 9 years without instances/dungeons)

If you go onto the App Store and read the reviews for this game, the top 5 problems mentioned are:
1. Dominant clans ruining the game by:
a. Being jerks to outsiders (one person referred to them as the mafia lmao)
b. Hoarding all of the bosses/preventing others from getting those bosses/locking players out of content (ksing and griefing were mentioned a few times)
c. Them requiring members to invest ridiculous amounts of time for gear

2. How horrible/boring leveling is

3. Slow support team

4. Players overpricing everything

5. The typical complaints shouting pay to win

If you don’t believe me go read the bad reviews for yourself. They’re all valid problems (apart from the pay to win, that can easily be debunked). VR should be focusing most on those issues. Also notice how content or drops weren’t mentioned as much as the other problems. Lack of content is still a problem though.

Have y'all considered maybe changing your rules to fix the issue? It's why most servers have competition, there isn't enough gear to go around.

Lol no. Servers have competition because one side doesn’t like the dominant clan and refuses to join them, but they want gear as well so they’re forced to compete for gear which actually ends up splitting the gear distribution in two halves between two different independent sides. Most often, for obvious reasons, the dominant clan gets the larger portion because they always have a gear advantage over the opposing clan. So it’s always so easy for them to say how great competition is because they’re the ones who are getting the better end of things lol. Sulis for example, I bet Retri and toxic did/do not like each other whatsoever and refused to work together for the longest time (before toxic gained more power and retri players then realized that they’re forced to join the enemy and kiss ass if they want a remote chance at progressing their character. Key word being forced).

There is no justified or fair rule that can solve the problem Epona has. VR has to step in
