Can we please end this here lol

Pay to win is when there is something that must be obtained by money, and isnt tradeable, gives an unfair advantage and is a REQUIREMENT to be the best you can possibly be. Free to win players CAN USE PLAT ITEMS obtained from other players. They just cant buy the plat themselves. Hotbar slots you get from opening chests, thats how I did it on several alts and maximized my auction house slots on one too. I used to be the best mage in the entire game, and am currently at a net worth of around 750 million. ALL WITHOUT BUYING PLAT. Please, no more p2w threads...

Funny, as this is the first time I've ever personally had the discussion on the forum so you might as well hear me out. Also as I've argued it's unreasonable to assume that anyone could get to your "level" as ftp, afaik your the only one and there's a reason for that.

As you've admitted, your not the best mage anymore, even if you were (possibly) in the past. So for any ftp to surpass you, hit another 30 levels and hit Armo's level is again, an unreasonable goal for any ftp player. It doesn't mean it can't happen, or that it hasn't, just that its unreasonable to say any one would be able to. Only a certain type of person can, if at all. To understand those who call this game ptwf (faster) like my self or even those who straight up accuse it of being ptw you need to take a more reasonable approach than the simple mathematical possibility that ftp players can achieve everything a paying player can, considering you yourself haven't (even if you could). Even looking at the statistical possibility is more realistic as I'm sure as far as the data is concerned the average players will never be able to compete with those who have paid.

Not sure why there is any doubt here.

Merching is extremely easy in this game, and can fund literally everything you have to do and then some. I know quite a few people who just merch and make money that way, myself included. People made tons fishing and farming as well. Its the people who don't try these options or give up who say the game is p2w.

If I wanted to be endgame again, I would be. Leveling isnt hard, it just takes time and gold. I just dont feel like bossing/camping so thats why I stayed at 190.

If by get to his level you don't mean level, but like his setup its totally possible
There's 2 things that hold people back from making a good build(assuming the person knows how to build for that class)
1. Gold(which we covered)
2. The gear RNG drops, which isn't controllable, and depending on your world/clan may be harder

So yes, a f2p player can be the best, and I was in the past as evidence of that.

I think you’re misunderstanding the levelling system,

Pay to play people spend money to get their lux
Free to play players spend gold to get their lux at a rate that’s possible to play. I did little effort and over the course of a 1-2 years I gained a net worth of nearly 5m. And I didn’t farm much at all. All as FTP, never bought plat
But :
Levelling takes the exact same time for both groups...

Both have equal and an easy opportunity to reach
Endgame, you’ve not factored in the point that lux items are a major piece in the market

30 levels is not the best example given its around 15% of most the levelling people do in the game

Sometimes u guys just arguing only for showing off lol. As experience players, u guys know it well actually. You dont have to use some complex terms or words lol.
You can play this game without using real life money, but you still have to pay using in game currency (gold) to buy plat items (lixes) - from the players that using irl money to buy platinum items - to be used for leveling till endgame level. And you can buy endgame gears using ingame currency (gold). You arent allowed by game rules to buy ingame items using real life money (well... U can actually lol). It is as simply as that. Dont need a scientist or an english master to describe it.
All you need is ingame currency (gold) to purchase everything ingame. For start, you can grinding by doing basic quest till shalemont (very easy), lets say a week to get to level 50 (done with mashall Ganon). At that time, u will have enough gold to buy one regen item from shalemont trader. And probably can get full dusk shadow armor. At this stage, you may have find the tricks or hints on how to progress by using ingame gold. Then u can take the next step by doing the chain quests which amazingly can take you to level 140ish from shalemont to carrowmore without any knowledge lixes, dont forget to ask around on how to do the chain quests. But maybe u gonna need restoration potions which again are easy to find using ingame gold. Choose a druid class. Its cheapest. And use meditate (yes meditate). Dont listen to these players. They maybe good on game mechanisms but most of them here are just good on the class they chosen for their first toon. The other classes they playing on have already with full lux gears or raid boss gears, so most of them have not really gone through the cycle of the level 1 gearless toon life from lirs on the 2nd and up classes they have. They dont know what is the benefit of using meditate or energy harvest for a poor and gearless level 1 to 100 toon :).
Ok, then after the chain quests done (u gonna need like at least 2 weeks to reach level 140ish by doing those chain quests, but with good gears on ur rich second toon later on, u probably just need 5 days / 4-5 hours per day to achieve it), u can start join a good clan for better gears. At that time, just by doing that chain quests, u can get at least 500k gold, depends on how many repetitions u able to do for each repetitive chain quest given to u. So u can buy lixes needed to start the real leveling up process in carrowmore. Remember to be nice all the time. You can get free good gears from generous players (which are not hard to find) to support ur leveling process. Being nice will also take u to an endgame clan, which by default will automatically open your path to the endgame level. At that stage u can consider urself a rich endgame toon without needing to spent a single dime of ur irl money. The whole process may take like 2 months at least (4-5 hours per day). And that is only one out of several ways u can do to get gold and reach endgame stage. There are fishing, cooking (selling baras in AH) you can do for gold and dont need you to be high level to do that. So basically you only need to be a nice player, and the endgame stage will coming to you :)

I'm not sure you really got my post... Furyion's answer makes more sense to me. As for pay to play, I'm really not sur how your categorising it as it doesn't have much to do with buying lux. At least how I've explained it. The 30 levels I was referring to is the difference between fury and EG (or just 220). But yes, lux is major, part of CH and if I buy plat I can get a focus of the seer at lvl 100 and benefit more from it while ftp will likely get it 120 or later. Since I have better gear I will kill mobs faster, getting more for my lix and leveling up faster. If ftp does get fots at lvl 100 they will have had to farm at least a decent amount of hours for it while I can be levelling, putting me hours ahead once more.

I know you posted some vids and if I have time I'll check them out, but if you convince me (and hopefully anyone else who reads this thread) then you'll be doing us all a favour.

You must be a merching madman like fury or something? Lux by level 50? Ok so merching madman is an exaggeration but seriously I just leveled my mage from scratch to 120 and there is no way I was gonna have lux by 50. I also found that farming at that level is very inefficient so I don't see how you could do that without wasting your time farming or (magically merching to glory like fury?). At 120 I have around 400k so I suppose I could hit 500 by 140 but that's hardly spending anything, and making a conscious effort to cut a profit as often as possible. Also been farming bosses with a friend or two, or solo when I can (SV a few k a drop depending plus discs or rems/tabs to sell) and have a great clan that's helped me gear rather quickly. But I still don't have FS or the jewelry which is the important/expensive gear for a mage, or an offhand so I doubt I'll be ready to go and lix to EG at 140. Gonna need many more hours of farming to be ready.

Probably u think of "lux gears" as in term of Wyld Sun ammy etc. The Amulet of Energy or Health or Vigor or Finely Master Craft ammies only ranged from 10k to 20k at The trader in Castle. That is more or less amount of gold you can get after keep killing those mobs in shalemont and doing basic quets. Oh i forgot to tell you about doing bounties too as one of gold resources.
Those items with 5 to 10 health or energy per tick are more than enough for a level 50-70 gearless druid or other classes to progress in game at that stage. Those are the real luxes for a poor and gearless toon.

Lol never bought plat here yet i have like 20m worth of items and fash(not raid gear). Have 2 lvl 6 pets and one kvl 6 mount and soon getting the 3rd lvl 6 pet all by using bounty tokens. I have one of the top 30-ish best healing in the game as well. This game is 100% not pay to win. Paying is faster ofc but thats how free to play games are.

No one here is doubting that plat items are essential in the game. The debate is more about whether a player as an individual has to pay to make any sort of progress in the game....which I think the general consensus is no. You do not have to pay real money to make somewhat decent progress in the game, because other players will pay.

Now, if we were talking about servers in general, then yes. Players (generally speaking) pretty much have to buy plat for the server to progress and continue at endgame. If everyone were to stop buying plat all at once, server progress would start slowing down quickly (it'd probably still take a few months because of the vast overload of items from chests). Once the elixirs/restos/idols started running out though, endgame clans would start struggling more and more, possibly not being able to kill endgame bosses. They'd have to rely on....*gasp* actual game mechanics

Actually, now that I say that, that would actually be pretty neat to see. Maybe it could be the catalyst to update the game mechanics and start moving away from the plat reliance.
